"Kuroshima Research Institute" Report Kuroshimareport

Drone surveys using "AKARI" begin

The Kuroshima Research Institute has begun a survey of the sea turtle and manta ray populations in the area. Drones are used to film the ocean and the number of sea turtles and manta rays is counted from the footage. Until now, surveys could only be conducted from land, but now the research vessel "AKARI" allows surveys to be conducted from the sea as well.

The drone footage of sea turtles and manta rays swimming gives you a real feel for the majesty of nature.

The institute is currently only conducting research around Kuroshima, but in the future they would like to conduct research along the coasts of the Yaeyama Islands.

We will continue to support the activities of the research vessel "AKARI."
