Donated research vessel begins operations at Kuroshima Research Institute

In August 2022, Kuroshima Research Institute and the University of Tokyo's Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute conducted a joint research study on the feeding behavior of sea turtles using the donated research vessel "AKARI."

The sea turtles are released with a video camera and a GPS attached to their backs to track their location.

These devices will detach from the sea turtles and float to the surface after a few days.
By recovering the video cameras, we can study the sea turtles' behavior from release to camera retrieval.
