Donated research vessel begins operations at Kuroshima Research Institute

In August 2022, Kuroshima Research Institute and the University of Tokyo's Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute conducted a joint research study on the feeding behavior of sea turtles using the donated research vessel "AKARI."

The sea turtles are released with a video camera and a GPS attached to their backs to track their location.

After a few days, the devices will be detached from the sea turtles and float to the surface.
By retrieving the video camera, it will be possible to record footage of the sea turtles' behavior from the time of release until the camera's retrieval.
