Research vessel "AKARI" donation ceremony held

We held a donation ceremony for the research vessel "AKARI," which had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, held in November 2022.

On the day, Kuroshima was able to hold the event in the perfect weather, with a moderate amount of sunlight and a temperature of 26 degrees.

At the ceremony, the president, Seki, first gave a donation greeting, and then presented the catalogue and a large replica anchor to Chairman Matsuzawa of the NPO, Japan Sea Turtle Council.

In response, Chairman Matsuzawa gave a thank you message and presented a letter of appreciation and a portrait of "AKARI" drawn by a staff member of the Kuroshima Institute.

I heard that the backing of this portrait is very special, made from sea turtle poop, which is kept at Kuroshima Institute.

In addition to the ceremony, Kuroshima Research Institute's proposal has also led to the commemorative release of a sea turtle into the sea to commemorate the donation of "AKARI."

The one chosen for release this time was a sea turtle, a species called hawkspirit, after the "Medetai."

The hawksbill, named "Akari," was subjected to physical measurements by Chairman Matsuzawa and the president, and a discrimination tag was attached.

At the beach, the "Akari" under the arches of participants safely returned to the sea, and the donation ceremony concluded in a peaceful atmosphere.

Kinkai Yusen will continue to provide regular support to Kuroshima Research Institute through maintenance assistance and volunteer work for the research vessel AKARI.

We will continue to explore and pursue environmentally friendly ESG management.
