Research vessel "AKARI" donation ceremony held

The donation ceremony for the research vessel "AKARI," which had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was held in November 2022.

On the day of the ceremony, Kuroshima was blessed with just the right amount of sunshine and a temperature of 26 degrees, making it ideal weather for the ceremony.

At the ceremony, President Seki gave a speech announcing the donation, and then presented the donation list and a replica large anchor to Mr. Matsuzawa, chairman of the NPO Sea Turtle Association of Japan.

In response, Chairman Matsuzawa gave a speech of thanks and presented the group with a letter of appreciation and a portrait of "AKARI" painted by staff at the Kuroshima Institute.

I have heard that the mount for this portrait is a very special one made from the droppings of sea turtles kept at the Kuroshima Research Institute.

In addition to the ceremony, at the suggestion of Kuroshima Laboratory, a commemorative release of a sea turtle will be held to commemorate the donation of "AKARI."

The sea turtle chosen for this release is the hawksbill sea turtle, named after the Japanese name "medetai."

The hawksbill turtle, named "Akari," was measured and fitted with an identification tag in a joint effort by Chairman Matsuzawa and the president.

On the beach, under the arch made by the participants, the lights were safely returned to the sea, and the donation ceremony came to a close in a peaceful atmosphere.

Kinkai Yusen will continue to provide regular support to the Kuroshima Research Institute through volunteer work and maintenance assistance for the research vessel "AKARI."

We will continue to explore and implement environmentally friendly ESG management.
